Baby Steps
20 April 2007 by Gil
I’ve been taking a bit of heat for my harsh assessment of the first two games of the Calgary/Detroit series so I thought I’d clarify my thoughts now that the Flames appear to have dragged themselves back into this series. From my perspective, trust was betrayed during the first two games of this series. Trust takes time to rebuild and I am not yet ready to declare forgiveness for the sins of games 1 & 2. Detroit was the scene of these heinous ‘crimes against hockey’ that were committed in the name of the flaming ‘C’. If the Flames win in Detroit I will publicly revoke my previous post and admit that I was wrong. You heard it here first.
I think my prediction before the series started that it will go 6 games still stands…you just need to listen to me more
Has John Kerry taken over Gil’s blog and started posting in his stead?
Well, the second period isn’t quite over yet, but I think it’s safe to say that the ECHLers have returned. Two shorthanded goals?! In one period?! In the playoffs?! Chris Chelios?! Are you kidding me?! I don’t think you’ll have to be admitting you were wrong anytime soon…
Classy move Playfair, McClennan in for one shift and hacks away? I also appreciate Nilson going after Draper and good ol Kris just standing there.
Whatever happened to that show where hockey goons competed? There’s always that.
Forgiveness is still delayed. Game 5 was not good for my relationship with the Flames. The first period gave me hope but periods 2 & 3 were embarrassments. Allowing Chris Chelios to score in any league is brutal, never mind shorthanded in the playoffs. As far as the garbage at the end of the game I chalk it up to a team getting angry because they know that even if they do (somehow) manage to win game 6 it is only a preview to a 9-1 loss in game 7.
My hockey pool success is entirely dependant on Ottawa and Vancouver winning.
Assuming your beloved Flames are back under the bus and given your recent track record, could you please cheer for Dallas, San Jose, Anahiem, Detroit, Buffalo, New Jersey and the Rangers.
Thanks.
is this the part where you pass judgement on the Flames organizations for not realizing that you love them and want(ed) them to win. Unfortunately they are outside of your love becuase they have refused to accept your infallible plan for their hockey games (er…uhm…win). Of course had they realized your love for them they could have accepted your plan for their hcokey games.
my sympathies!
Paul,
Beautiful. It is a fact that the team I cheer for is doomed. Having admitted this, I will be cheering FOR the Canucks tonight and AGAINST the Senators the rest of the way. I’ll go halfway with you so you’ll have at least one team in the finals.
“Happy is the person who meditates on wisdom and reasons intelligently”* (Sirach 14:20)
*Some ancient manuscripts add Vancouver 2, Dallas 1, Game 7 OT…
Thanks for your help with the Senators Gil. If it works and they win, I’m gonna read NT Wright until I can think up lots of great stuff to say about him… really…no matter how long it takes….
