How Do You Spell Defeat?
19 March 2007 by Gil
As Shelley and I drove THIS home from Saskatoon Saturday afternoon we looked at one another and said, “There’s no way around it. We’re not cool anymore.” I’ve tried to tell myself “It’s a sporty minivan” but that’s like saying ‘my hair covers most of my head’ or ‘the Flames win most of their games at home’. It has the ring of a contradiction doesn’t it.
Um, at the risk of stating the obvious, defeat is spelled V-A-N.
When is the wake?
To baldly go where where many other dads have gone before!
Gil I still think you’re cool (in a very lame but respectible way). This is really only the beginning of a progress of digression that will peak when Julie is 16 years old.
so you’re going for the comb-over too?
But Gil, it has bucket seats! And all the seats can be removed, it’s perfect for when you get really old, Shelley can drive and you can have a bed in the back so that you can lie down!
I bet it has lots of room for hockey equipment… it’s just too bad that you’re getting too old to play anymore.
You play you pay…………!
This course of events began the day Julie was conceived!
I thought two kids meant cars were still acceptable? Hmmm…is there something we should know about?
So. Very. Funny.
It’s almost sporty…? Eh.
I remember this conversation.
Nate: “WOW Gil Nice Car.”
Gil: “Yeah thanks, I never want to drive a van.”
Nate: “Well Gil there comes a time when you just need the space.”
Gil: “People don’t need more space, they just need less stuff. If you can’t fit it in a car, then you have too much.”
True story
Well Nathan, your memory is good. Let’s just say things have changed. I can’t say more… too sensitive. But the charge of hypocrisy is fair. I am ashamed.
