Theos

Some British Christians have started an interesting experiment called Theos. It’s being described as a ‘public theology think tank’ and is seeking to address questions involving the role of religion in public life through published reports, media analysis and the sponsoring of public events, study conferences and debates. In their words:
“Society is embarking on a process of rapid de-secularisation. Interest in spirituality is increasing across Western culture. Faith is firmly on the agenda of both government and the media. In the arts, humanities and social sciences there are important and exciting intellectual developments currently taking place around questions of values and identity. Theos speaks into this new context. Our perspective is that faith is not just important for human flourishing and the renewal of society, but that society can only truly flourish if faith is given the space to do so.”
The have an initial report called ‘Doing God: A Future For Faith in the Public Square‘ written by a certain Nick Spencer, that lays out some of the theory behind this organization (warning: it’s really long). I’ve read the report and some of the initial responses to this organization and it seems like it might be an interesting site to keep an eye on.
There are very interesting things happening here in England with Christians, the culture is very interesting and some very passionate Christians are tapping into this strange culture in some interesting ways… I blogged a little about England too and i am curious to hear your opinion on what I have to say
