A Reluctant Blogger
27 May 2005 by Gil
So what is a blog and what do bloggers do? I used to think it was a place where people who were bored or socially inept could rant and rave about things they couldn’t express in face to face relationships. I’ve had a bit of a change of heart after following the lives and thoughts of some very interesting people via their blogs. As I’ve read I’ve wondered whether a blog may in fact be a place where some weird form of community takes place as people read and respond to each other’s thoughts, hopes, and fears. I’ve come to the conclusion that a blog is a place to record thoughts that don’t often get articulated anywhere else. We live in a world where we rarely talk about the things that really matter with those who matter to us so a blog might also be a place where that can happen. Hopefully this blog will be a springboard to more and better conversations.
For those who don’t know me I work at a little place called Bethany College in Hepburn, Saskatchewan where I have the privilege of teaching theology and working with the guys in our residences. My wife and I, along with our two daughters have lived here for just under two years. Actually our one daughter hasn’t lived here for two years, she’s only two weeks old.
In a nutshell, my job is to talk to others about my thoughts on life, God and other interesting topics and to walk with students as they navigate early adulthood and the many questions that this stage brings. This blog might be a good place to connect with students and others who have an interest in my thoughts and experiences. So for those who do know me, welcome aboard, I’d love to hear from you along the way. For those who don’t, I look forward to making your acquaintance, albeit in a slightly surreal way.
